The Mysterious Exit Signal Unveiled

Chapter 7: The Exit Signal
by Grace Johns

Daisy stood at the edge of the porch, candle untouched, heart steady in its defiance. The cottage was too perfect. Too curated. It felt like a memory she hadn’t lived yet.

She reached for the mailbox, fingers grazing the spiral symbol. Cold. Etched deep. Her breath caught as she noticed something tucked beneath it—a folded piece of paper, aged and soft like it had waited years to be found.

She opened it slowly.

“You dreamed this before you knew it was real.
You named it before you saw it.
You claimed it before you arrived.
But you are not the first.
And you are not alone.”

No signature. Just a wax seal pressed into the corner—velvet red, shaped like a flame.

She stepped back. Her instincts screamed both go and stay. The candle on the porch flickered once, though no wind moved.

Her phone buzzed.

A message. Unknown number. No contact photo. Just one line:

“If you enter, you’ll remember everything. If you leave, you’ll forget what you’ve already reclaimed.”

She looked at the door. Closed. Silent. Waiting.

She didn’t knock.
She didn’t run.
She lit the candle.

And the flame roared.
